Star Trek costumes are appealing for fans of every age. There is such a variety of shows and movies now, you have lots of options to choose from. No matter if you are a serious Trekkie getting ready for a convention or a more casual fan planning on a party, there are possibilities for everyone.

It is a good idea to first make up your mind which of the Star Treks you want to take your character from. Is the original series still your favorite? Or are you more a fan of Enterprise, Voyage, Deep Space 9 or The Next Generation? Or maybe the movies get your creativity flowing?

Which is your favorite is going to impact your choice of costume. It effects more than just the uniform style. For example, in the original series, Klingons were the bad guys. Later, they started working with the Federation. Also, their make-up changed greatly as well.

Your choice is also going to depend on your budget. If you are willing to spend the money, you can purchase your entire costume. If you do, you can be whatever character you can find the clothes, accessories and make-up for. If you do not want to purchase your entire costume, it is probably best to stick with being a Starfleet character and a more human looking character than a Klingon.

A Starfleet uniform is fairly simple in terms of getting together the pants and shirt. You just need to make sure the design and colors are right for your time period. There are plenty of images online to help you there. The simplest types of uniforms are from the first series, of course. If you have the time and ability, you can also find patterns to make your own uniform. You will get the most realistic looking costume doing that.

As far as make-up goes, if you do not want to be human, you can easily make or buy prosthetic ears to be a Vulcan or put on a small amount of make-up to be Bajoran, for example. Just remember, the more elaborate the make-up needed, the more expensive it will be and the harder to get it right.

Accessories are a good place to spend some extra money to help your character look more authentic. You can invest in the correct weapons, badges or communicator for example. If your uniform is not perfect, an authentic looking phaser will go a long way to make up for it.

You can also add props to fit with your favorite episode or movie as well. If you are a fan of the original series, you could always create your own tribbles, for example. It is the little touches that will make the costume stand out.

Star Trek costumes are a perfect choice for any science fiction fan. Take the time to come up with some prop ideas and make or find the outfit you want. With the right couple of accessories, you will look like you graduated from the Academy. - 39969
